week 39

Hey everybody !
thank you all for following this blog ! I´ve added some new stuff for you guys, first of all you may or may not have noticed the google bar beneath the logo, it is an optimized search bar. I often have to google up bands to listen to their material before working with them and most of the time I find myself doing 3 or 4 searches before finding their myspace page as result nr4 or 5. No more !! this bar makes it a hellofalot easier to find any band on the internet ! try It ;)

I also started a facebook pages for those of you who wants to keep up with my updates during the week ! check it out and like it at http://www.facebook.com/sthmcue
Plz go to that page and click on the link "suggest to friends" to help this blog growing ! any feedback or suggestion can be placed into the logg :)

enough said, on to week 39 !

you can find and listen to arvids playlist for week 39 by clicking here

this weeks starts of pretty slow but will certainly end well !
eclecticity will be shown hehe

28/09 @ malmen LHB
gushpanka

Gushpanka is a jazz quartet with drums bass piano and saxophone. I put 2 of their songs in the playlist, if you don´t like jazz just skipp to then next ;) (I won´t !)
there will certainly be a video of this concert with my mix, but untill then I got this one for you

29/09
Treadstone + rock n roll allstars @ göta källare

yesterday I worked again @ GK´s rockparty. I got to work with treadstone, nice guys, very professional aswell. they also had their own crew with them (sound, lights and backliner) something i think most bands should have ! They did a good show, if you like foo fighters you should totaly check them out !

opening act for the evening was Rock n roll allstars, funny guys :)
I did not find any of their vids but i did find this one of their AXE tour !
enjoy !

Wolf Parade @ debaser medis

in between soundcheck and showtime at GK i had the time to go watch wome of the songs of Wolf parade, i did not see the opening act but i saw the 5 first songs of WPs set. 4 guys: 1 playing bass and guitar with lots of fx, one playing keys throught bass amps (wicked !), one playing guitar and of course a drummer. all 3 fronts sings.

2/10 @ O learys
rock for charity

As mentioned this is a charity event ! I don´t like working for free but sometimes you just have to ;)
click on the poster to get to the facebook event !

Renegade 5

it´s gonna be fun to see how this band really delivers live ;)

Ryan Roxxie with friends

I dunno about the friends but let´s hope for some pretty awesome stuff ! Ryan who´s currently residing in Stockholm, is the founding member of Roxie 77 and probably most well known for his guitar work with Alice Cooper, Slash, Casablanca and many more. don´t think some dude with a gibson, funny hat and a cigarette in his mouth will mount the stage but we can always hope ;)

Sherlock Brothers

I finally get to do the sound for this guys :) good band, good energy live, non prententious
I put 2 of their songs in the playlist and here´s one of their videos. enjoy

Highride

ehm. pass ! they got some teasers on their myspace if you want to hear :) this is a goo opportunity for you guys to try out my google band searchbar ;)

Self deception

awesome band, awesome music ! enjoy ;)

03/09 @ café opera
Corroded release party

oh yeah ! this band has been played times and times again on swedish radio, And I finally get to do their sound. I´m also in charge of the PA rental and stuff for this show so it´s gonna be an interesting gig :) corroded are doing this realeaseparty for their new album called (well, why don´t you tell me ?) anyway, they only got so called "snippets" (no, not teasers) on their myspace but I did find a video in wich they all sing in sm57:s (even if it happens that bands sing in sm57 I don´t think these guys do it for real, someone probably told them it looked cooler.. lol I might just do an entire post about band viedos and microphones if nothing elese shows up this week..) :p

Some bad news here, corroded canceled their gig considering that they´d rather do the release in sundsvall since they also have a show at klubben in stockholm on the 29th of october.

Bad news, but the party at café opera i still on, replacing them will be the band Cellout and opening act will be stand up comedian aron flam.
I did not find any good video from them but i found this live vido from 2006 when they supported ill nino @ klubben. sound quality sucks but i did put 2 of their ong in the playlist. see you there !

more to come later !

week 38

This week starts off good !! I only got 2 shows so far, but maybe something will show up during the week.. But I can always tell you what´s going to happen this week :D

check out arvids playlist for week 38 by clicking here !

20/09 @ debaser medis
10CC

What an amazing day ! This band is probably familiar to most of you, responsible for lots of huge hits in the 80´s (dreadlock holiday, I´m not in love, benefit, bullet.. ). What an amazing performance, and such a nice crew! the stage set-up was pretty big, with one of the lead singers alternating between guitar/vocals to acoustik guitar to percussions (congas, timbales cymbals and shakers)and keybord. the keybordplayer also played guitar and bass and saxophone. And all of the band members were excellent singers. My FOH colleague, who was housing for their very talented sound engineer, told me that people in the audience were wondering if there were any tapes or auto-tune involved !! I certainly would want more of these shows, really good band, lots of people, professional and nice crewmembers. Perfect way to start the week :)

I put 3 of their songs that they played live in this weeks playlist since they were so good :D

22/09 @ göta källare
sabbath the cover band + theatre of pain

Haha I told you guys something would show up !
yesterday at 15.00 I got a call to do the sound
for 2 cover bands at GKs rockparty

Since black sabbath doesn´t exist anymore i could not put any of their songs in the playlist
but what´s cover bands to the real thing I ask you ??

let us watch a little reminder of the real sabbath instead ;)

as for theatre of pain , for those of you (like me) who wouldn´t have guessed it by the name..
they play motley crue covers..

I did put one song from motley in the playlist, go listen to it and compare the quality of the vocals to these live videos .. tell me in comments which year you think motley crue sounded best !

1983

1989

1997

2007

hmm.. could someone tell me what year the autotuner for live applications came out ?

23/09 @ anchor
ICONDEMN

I won´t be working at this gig but you might see me in the audience !
These guys are good friends of mine I ´ve worked with them before and they used to rehearse in the studio next to ours in my former band. If you don´t know about them I strongly suggest that you check em out ! I put 2 of their songs in the playlist for you to enjoy :)

Note: funny thing about this video, it is recorded in that same rehearsal studio I mentioned.
Pay attention to the singer, he is singing in a large membrane condenser microphone.I wish someone told him during the recording of this vid that he´s actually singing in the side of the microphone. (looks cooler bro ! maybe.. try turning it 90° next time for realistic purposes...Who called me Mr knowing it all ?!)

25/09 @ debaser medis
ludwig bell + panter

Ludwig bell sings in swedish and he´s lyrics are both well wrietten and funny.
big ups to his band who were really nice guys and kudos to the fact that they were all singin backing vocals (including the drummer he´s the one doing the wooos in the chorus on the song in the video)

Ludwig and his guys had their own sound engineer, very nice guy ! he´s also just happening to be playing guitar in Panter, the opening act for the evening. funny situation to go from the stage to FOH :D Panter´s a good band, drum, bass and guitars also doing backings, and a lead singer playing acoustik guitar. more of their songs in the playlist which i´ve refilled a little bit ;)

That´s all I got this week. Make sure you don´t miss any of these updates by following me on twitter !!

week 37

click here to listen to the playlist of the week : --arvids playlist for week 37--

13/09 @ debaser slussen
The Depriciation Guild + The Early Days

I did not find any video of the early days nut i got 2 of their songs on the playlist

the depreciation guild is a cool band from New York mixing some form of energic pop rock with 8bit techno and soft vocals. during soundcheck I noticed that the bassplayer (who played partially on a bass guitar and a keybord) runned his keybord through an old nintendo! 8point for being retro and cool while sounding futuristic!

15/09 @ göta källare
GK rockparty
Mojobone+Kamchatka

Mojobone, featuring Per Wiberg (vocals/guitar/keyboards) from Opeth and Marcus Källström (drums) from Stonecake, Fredrik Åkesson from Opeth on lead guitar and Thomas Thorberg from Plankton on bass.

this video is not from the show @ GK where i did the sound, but I though i´d put it anyway to give you guys an ideo of how amazing it was :D

Kamchatka is simply awesome. nothing to tell here just listen !!
both the guitar player and bass player sings lead in this powertrio.

16/09 @ göta källare
klubb nuh linga presents gappy ranks

hiphop being hiphop i could write about lots of things that happened that night, But i have to stay professional here so i´ll just say I had better hiphop shows.

17/09 @ debaser medis
Morning benders + Van (port o brien)

allthough Van (port o brien)did play solo with his acoustick guitar i though it would be cooler to put a video with the whole band. On stage he told the audience that last time he was in stockholm he played at debaser slussen (a smaller venue than debaser medis also in stockholm), so he though he was to perform there that day. apperently he sat there drinking coffe watching an other band soundcheck when someone told him he was supposed to be at debaser medis !
the drummer from the morning benders did show up during his set to help him out with a couple of songs.

the morning benders are a cool band from california. I give you here the song that´s been in my head all week, they even used it as a soundcheck song ! amazing performance, the place was crowded ! The singer went out in the audience when singing their second hitsong "excuses" (I put in the playlist.) and got lots of hugs from the crowd while singing :D

18/09 @ debaser medis
Peter moren + Easy

peter moren is also one of the guys responsible for the single "young folks" !
even if they did not play that song they did a great performance, including percussions and a saxophone to their original setting (drums bass and organ) for this show. great charisma from the singer, great drummer aswell i have to say ! the organ player did some cool stuff aswell using the signal from his organ through some guitar pedals :)

As for Easy, there´s not much here for me to say, I think they did an ok gig, these guys have been around for quite a while, i suggest you check out their myspace and earlier albums. i put 2 of their songs in the playlist aswell.

welcome to SthmCue !!

Hi !
My name is Arvid and I work as a freelance sound engineer, mostly in stockholm. Born in sweden I grew up in paris where I developped a huge interest for live music. Being a kid in paris I used to go to at least 3 concerts a week ! hence my carrier choice ;)

Being freelance I work almost exclusivly with live music which gives me the opportunity to witness so many acts i´d never go see myself if I wasn´t working. And most of the time I find myself amazed and surprised about what so many artist have to offer.
This blog is a way for me to share this with all of you, this particular experience through each week, never knowing what´s gonna happen, living in an ecletic maelstorm of music in one of the most beautiful and musicly active citys of the world!

Each week I will post a myspace playlist of all the artists i´ve worked with during the week (wheter as FOH/MON/stage) or seen as audience and link some videos of their songs I liked or disliked.. maybe tell I´ll you some stuff that happened during the shows aswell :) (note: I will never expose any artists or promoters in a way that would make me or someone else look unprofessional)

follow me on twitter, add me on myspace, follow this blog and share it with your friends, gain up the volume and enjoy the ride !

regards
/ arvid
